Daifuku aims to improve Groupwide environmental performance by consolidating its environmental management systems in Japan. Under the environmental management structure Daifuku has developed, environmental managers from across Japan share information at regional promotion meetings.

Environmental auditing system
The Daifuku Group periodically undergoes external audits wherein a certified agency confirms that the Company's environmental management system is being appropriately implemented and maintained. At the same time, the Company conducts internal environmental and ISO 9001 (quality management system) audits of the individual operating units of each division.

Reducing VOC emissions
At Shiga Works, Daifuku works to reduce volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from the painting process in factories. Daifuku uses a VOC remover to decrease harmful substance emissions.

Monitoring energy at factories
Daifuku uses a computer system to monitor electricity and gas use at its factories. The company reviews data graphs to quickly check on total energy use in production facilities. By checking data regularly, Daifuku can decide whether operation and facilities improvements are needed to save energy.

Emergency preparedness
Daifuku has identified potential emergency situations that may affect its local operating environments, including earthquakes, fires, floods and spills of hazardous materials. To prepare for these emergencies, Daifuku strategically conducts drills that follow specific procedures.

Environmental education and training
Daifuku provides environmental education and training for all staff to enhance their understanding of the environmental management system and promote "green" activities at individual workplaces. The education and training are designed to accommodate the specific requirements of each operation.
In addition, Daifuku strives to enhance staff's awareness of environmental conservation through its in-house intranet and periodic display of posters on environmental subjects.
