- Glossary
- *PRTR (Pollutant Release and Transfer Register) Law:
Law asks entities to understand the amount of chemical substances discharged into the environment and to promote improvements in their management of these substances. This law encourages the voluntary management of chemical substances and the prevention of environmental pollution by having enterprises report to their national governing authority the number and volume of chemical substances they are releasing into the environment. - **REACH Regulations:
REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals. Companies must register and evaluate the safety of chemical substances contained in the products they manufacture and sell in Europe.

Turning sludge into raw material for cement
At Shiga Works wastewater treatment facility, it is necessary to treat the sludge generated to maintain stable water treatment. The process involves machine drying dewatered sludge drawn from the facility. The end result is dried sludge with a moisture content of only 20%. This has led to a significant reduction in sludge volume, enabling a decrease in waste material treatment costs and effective use of dried sludge as raw material for cement.
